Third Coast is Hiring a Research Chemist Near Pearland, TX

Position Summary

Under the direction of Technology Manager, the Research Chemist's main task is to carry out experimental studies in a safe and productive manner.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • To work on projects in a timely, accurate and safe manner under supervisionSet up experimental equipment,

Conduct experiments on projects assigned,
Report results timely to supervisor or project leader.
Maintain the experimental record.
Properly dispose of lab waste

  • Comply with chemical hygiene and other SH&E policies. Participate in Third Coast safety programs, including safety reviews, inspections, SafOPs, and JWI when required.
  • Receive samples and keep a sample receiving log. Put all paperwork in the appropriate (electronic) folder. Maintain the experimental samples storage.
  • Purchase necessary reagents, consumables, and lab equipment and properly document all work.
  • Maintain lab equipment and analytical instrument according to the established schedule.
  • Enhance technical knowledge and laboratory skills by attending training courses or seminars and/or reading technical reports and analytical procedures.
  • Familiar with all QC methods used within company. Help QC lab when required.
  • Complete other tasks assigned by supervisor or upper management.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • This position requires a minimum of a B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical Engineer

Work Experience:

  • Two years chemical lab experience preferred but not required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • This position requires adequate knowledge in math, chemistry and computers for reporting, data handling, and communication, such as MS Office software.
  • Specialized technical skills include basic operation in chemistry, such as but not limited to literature searching, distillation, extraction, glassware reaction, and autoclave operation.
  • Because of the involvement of a variety of chemicals in research and the hazardous characters of chemicals, a good judgement is necessary to safety handle chemicals and perform the designed research.
  • This position requires the knowledge of operating laboratory equipment, such as heating/cooling bath, vacuum pump, liquid metering pump, pressurized reactor, glassware, ovens, temperature controllers, heating mantles, and so on.
  • This position also requires knowledge of operating analytical instruments, including but not limit to balance, moisture analyzer, density meter, viscosity meter, auto or manual titrator, and colorimeter.
  • This position also requires the basic knowledge of operating larger scale analytical instruments such as GC, IC, ICP, UV-vis., FT-IR, and so on. This position needs to perform the basic maintenance on the equipment or instruments for use. If required, usage/calibration log should also be maintained.
  • This position is required to write experimental reports and project memos when assigned by supervisor or project leader. It is imperative that experimental data are timely and accurately communicated to supervisor/project leader.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical demands required are to sit, stand, talk or hear, smell, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift items.
  • Primarily laboratory and office setting.
  • Travel up to 5% of the time.
  • Frequent handling of glassware, overhead agitator, gas cylinders, handling of instrumentation for repair, receiving and handling heavy boxes, dumping samples, moving samples, etc.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member works near moving mechanical parts exposed to fumes, and other chemicals which will require specific PPE and safety precautions.
